Help CPS To Continue To Meet The Challenge of Funding

In late 2007 Charles and Mariann Younger announced a gift of $20,000 to CPS, challenging the agency to raise a matching $20,000 and WE HAVE DONE IT!. This generous donation was extended in appreciation for our mission to serve cancer survivors and their families in our community.

CPS must continue to build for a stable fiscal foundation for the agency.

Cancer Patient Services has structured levels of giving for your consideration.  If your interest lies in our Annual Giving Communities, donations can be at the Majestic Lily level  ($50-$199), Thoughtful Orchid level ($200-$349) or Faith, Hope and Wisdom Iris level ($350 and above).  Please contact our agency to learn more about our PLANNED AND MAJOR GIVING OPTIONS: Traditional Major Gifts, Heritage Endowment Fund, Legacy Endowment Fund and the CPS Vision Investment Fund.

Your continuing charitable support is crucial.  This agency relies on its donors to accomplish its mission of caring service.  This has always been our challenge AND YOUR opportunity to serve those in need.

"Comfort food" takes on a whole new meaning when an individual is undergoing cancer treatment. Nutrition becomes a major concern for cancer patients as one of the side effects of chemo is a decrease in appetite, or a change in the sense of taste. Food also offers emotional connections to family members and special occasions. It seems that almost everyone has a recipe that has been handed down from a relative. A cookbook can be a very special publication when the recipes are from loved ones who have been touched by cancer.

Cancer Patient Services has published such a cookbook. Many of the recipes in the cookbook have been submitted in tribute to a cancer patient who has lost his or her battle with cancer or in honor of someone who has won the fight! The cookbook includes recipes in the categories of Appetizers & Beverages, Soups & Salads, Main Dishes, Breads & Rolls and Desserts.

Tamera Rooney, a local artist, is the chair of the cookbook committee. She asked local artists if they would allow the use of their "food-oriented" art to be used to illustrate the high-quality cookbook. The response was amazing and as a result, many pieces are featured on the tabs separating the categories in the book.

The cookbook is available for purchase at the following locations in Findlay:

Blanchard Valley Regional Cancer Center, George House, House of Awards and Shoes,

and Thin & Healthy.

Cookbooks are also available at the Cancer Patient Services office.

National Cancer Survivors Day 2008 Results:

Cancer Patient Services celebrated National Cancer Survivors Day on Sunday, June 1, 2008 at the Family Center.  More than 100 people joined the celebration.  Many thanks go to those who supported and helped make this event happen.  Featured were Findlay Mayor Pete Sehnert, barbershop quartet Paragon, the Millstream Singers, motivational speaker Robert "Mr. Happy" Moyers, author & cancer survivor Leslie Droll and singer Dale Edie.

Many thanks also to Cold Stone Creamery for providing delicious cakes and ice cream as well as to Blanchard Valley Health System, Amgen & Genentech for their financial support.

This event gives a voice to millions of people who have been touched by cancer. NCSD is an annual, international celebration of life that unites cancer survivors, caregivers, family members, friends and healthcare professionals to show the world that life after a cancer diagnosis can be a reality.

CONGRATULATIONS SURVIVORS!

Hope Garden Painting:

This acrylic painting entitled "Hope Garden" by Tamera Rooney was done to honor National Cancer Survivor's Day on June 2, 2002.

It is currently hung in the offices of Cancer Patient Service at:

The Family Center                                             1800 N. Blanchard Street, Suite 120                                             Findlay, Ohio.

Each flower featured in the painting represents an element of survival that comes with battling cancer. Tamera's 11-year-old daughter Tess is a cancer survivor and Tamera dedicates this painting to her.

"There is a language, little known,
Lovers claim it as their own.
Its symbols smile upon the land,
Wrought by Nature's wondrous hand;
And in their silent beauty speak,
Of life and joy, to those who seek
For Love Divine and sunny hours
In the language of the flowers."
